Get data from ASAS-3 database

Hi,

So far, I have recovered the ASAS-3 data using the link inside the VSX. However, if my star has not already been inserted into VSX (for a new submission), what is the correct procedure for accessing the data? On the ASAS portal I can't understand where could be a "search" field.

Thanks

Franco

Getting ASAS-3 data

First thing to note is that the ASAS database has been unaccesible for more than a week now.
I hope it is not that they had another hard disk failure and lost their data :(

Assuming things will be fixed, you don't need to go to their site to get the observations, since the ASAS-3 data is all-sky and can be searched by position, we are not querying their variable star catalog but all the data they serve for any star that they were able to detect (coverage is from -90 to +28º)

All you need to do is searching by position in VSX and then follow the ASAS light curve external link.

Sebastian

Getting ASAS-3 data

Thank you Sebastian. I have used several time the link in VSX but my problem is for stars that are not present in VSX, and therefore I cannot use this shortcut.

I thought about using a link from another star, like the following: "http://www.astrouw.edu.pl/cgi-asas/asas_variable/091707-1932.5,asas3,6.12155,7979.0050,500,0,0 "replacing the coordinates, but the entry form leaves me in doubt.

ASAS links and coordinate searches

Hi Franco,

it doesn't matter if the star is not in VSX. The ASAS link is available anyway, you just have to do a coordinate search.
There will be no result but the external links dropdown menu will be available and the ASAS link will take you to the star at the coordinates you entered.

What you did is also okay (but you also have to edit the period, epoch, etc. that you copied from the other star), but it is not necessary.

In either case, we will have to wait for the data to be online again.

Cheers,
Sebastian
