This object looks smaller than other stars in your image of similar brightness, so it could be a cosmic ray. As Arne said, you need a second image to be sure.

I did a quick check of the image; the object looks stellar. I don't see anything obviously wrong in the header; looks like a standard 60-second V-band exposure with iTelescope. Usually I assume an asteroid in cases like this, so be sure to check the MPC and make sure. Other than that, a confirming image from someone else (as you requested!) is essential for confirmation of the transient object.

Not sure of the exact time the image was made, but a MPChecker around your posted time shows 2 asteroids nearby SY CNC. 1998 HU94 seems the closest match, the other one is 1998 FE25. Both are about 19th magnitude, however.

I imaged the area near SY Cnc on Apr 30 at 07:22 UT with the BSM-Hamren in Hawaii, and the object in question is not visible down to V=14.5

Take a look all around the area if you get the chance. There was a fellow on one of the net boards this morning claiming two unknown comet-like objects with multiple nuclei in Lync and Cancer. I thought his description seemed improbable, but you never know. Glen
