A deep fading, similar to VY Scl stars, was observed. Small-amplitude variations with P = 0.136621 d. before the fading and P = 0.137206 d. after it. Another period of semi-regular variations is about 26d.
Semi-regular brightenings with an amplitude of roughly 1 magnitude (CV) and a period around 26 days (2014OEJV..167....1H). Gaia DR2 parallax 2.0744 ± 0.0248 mas (distance 475 ± 6 pc).
Observed parameters (colour indices, X-ray and UV luminosity, log(lx/fopt)) and variability pattern are in accordance with a classification as an "anti-dwarf nova" of VY Sculptoris type. Significant fading event (low state) between HJD 2454700 and HJD 2455200. B-V= 0.06 (APASS), J-K= 0.72 (2MASS).

Light curve details of 1SWASP J022916.91-395901.4, illustrating the short term variability (P= 0.137206 days). The diagram has been based on SuperWASP data (binned, bin-size: 0.01 days; obvious outliers have been removed by a visual inspection).
