The Catalina Surveys Periodic Variable Star Catalog
Hi Eddy,
More than 38,000 variables from The Catalina Surveys Periodic Variable Star Catalog were added to VSX last week. Due to memory limits not more than some 30,000 objects can appear in the VSX result list. There would be a similar problem if you would ask for all variables in e.g. Sagittarius (more than 60,000) or all EW stars (about 38,000 also).
I get the same result. We'll look into the problem.
Over the last week we had more than 38,000 new variables added to VSX so at first I thought the problem might be caused by a browser crashing when trying to display those 38,000 lines but some days ago I got the results and not a blank screen like now.
I have limited the output to 1000 records. If there are more you can still download them as a CSV file. This should solve the issues with large result sets.
Now that the output has been limited to 1000 records, how can I see the other records? Before, I did copy and paste the cv-database (now 3441 records) on to an excel-file, but now I can't to that anymore... It's very handy when working with such an excel file!
Hi Eddy,
You don't need to copy and paste now. If you were already using Excel, now you can download all the results as a csv file, there is a button for that.
OK Sebastian, but then you simple have a csv-file. With the excel-file I could copy and paste the whole list with the hyperlink still on it. When searching I could easily go from the one to the other without having to search again! Could there be a possibility to ask for the whole list. (maybe with a applicable box or so?)

Patrick,
Last week I could see all 38,000 variables when I made the last week search and not a blank screen like now so something must have happened...

Sebastian

Hi Eddy,
I have set the limit to 5000 records for the moment. This should solve your problem until we have a better way to deal with the memory issue.
Patrick
OK thanks Patrick!
