Unable to upload observation data file

I have been trying for the last month to upload my first observation data file.  It seems that if the file contains an error (eg an extra comma) I get an error message but when the file appears completely correct I get the message 'The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later.'.  I am on a Linux machine but I have saved the file with MS-DOS end of line characters.  I am able to enter observations manually.  I tried to attach a copy of the data file but the File Upload button appears not to be working.
