Event: Nova in Per: = N Per 2020 = TCP J04291884+4354232 = TCP J04291888+4354233
Discovered independently by:
- Seiji Ueda (Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan) (via TOCP)
- Stanislav Korotkiy (Ka-Dar Obs./Astrovert), Kirill Sokolovsky (MSU/SAI and MSU/ASC Lebedev), and Olga Smolyankina (Observatory of Omsk CPCT) (via TOCP)
Discovery magnitude:
- Ueda: unfiltered CCD magnitude 10.6 (using a Canon EOS 6D digital camera + f/3.2 200-mm lens) (via TOCP)
- Korotkiy et al.: unfiltered CCD magnitude 10.6 +/- 0.1 (using a wide-field survey camera (F=135mm f/2.0 telephoto lens and ST8300M unfiltered CCD) (via TOCP)
Discovery date:
- Ueda: 2020 November 25.807 UT (via TOCP)
- Korotkiy et al.: 2020 November 25.8438 UT (via TOCP)
Coordinates (2000.0): R.A. 04 29 18.85 Decl. +43 54 23.0 (from VSX page for N Per 2020)
Spectra: Spectroscopy obtained by Munari et al. (ATel #14224) on 2020 Nov. 26.05 UT using a 25cm telescope + Alpy600 indicates the object is a galactic nova close to maximum. They also report that photometry obtained using ANS Collaboration telescope 0310 on Nov. 25.965 UT indicates modest reddening.
Olivier Garde (Where) reports a spectrum taken with an eShel spectrograph (R=11000) and a RC400 Astrosib indicates the object is a nova; the spectrum may be seen at

Subsequent spectra obtained by Munari et al. (ATel #14229) with the Varese 0.84-m telescope on Nov 26.813 and 27.703 UT, and with the Asiago 1.22-m telescope on Nov 27.004 and 27.715 UT show the nova evolving and classify it in the FeII class.
Observing recommendations: Please observe the nova as it continues to evolve, with observations of all types (visual, CCD, DSLR, PEP, spectroscopy) and multiple bands as instrumentation permits.

Notes:
a. Designated TCP J04291884+4354232 and TCP J04291888+4354233 when posted to the IAU Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Transient Object Confirmation Page (TOCP). This nova was posted to the TOCP independently by S. Ueda (TCP J04291884+4354232) and by S. Korotkiy et al. (TCP J04291888+4354233).
b. S. Ueda writes that nothing is visible down to magnitude 13.6 at this location on a frame taken on 2020 Nov. 23 UT. S. Korotkiy reports that nothing is visible at this location down to magnitude 13.5 on previous images taken by Korotkiy et al. Nov 24.0535 UT. (via TOCP)
c. S. Ueda writes that there is a faint star (mag.= 19.1) in the USNO-B1 catalog. P. Schmeer (Saarbruecken-Bischmisheim, Germany) identifies this star as USNO-B1.0 1339-0102783. (via TOCP)
d. P. Schmeer reports that no brightenings were recorded by the ASAS-SN Sky Patrol 2012 February 14 - 2014 December 16 and 2020 November 25 (via TOCP).
