Dear all,
I would like to perform a search in VSX that will retrieve the same set of attributes for a list of stars, not necessarily of the same variabilty type or program. The reason for this is that I am slowly building a variable star observing list (do not want to call it a program yet) with stars I either already observe regularly or that I plan to observe in the coming season, and I wish to have some sort of consistent list that I can invoke and extract using scripts. I have tried to insert a list of stars in the search field of VSX without success (only admits one at a time). My understanding is what I want to do is not possible, but who knows, may be I am wrong and simply I did not figure out how to do that. Therefore I would like to ask you if such an operation is currently permitted in VSX.
Thanks in advance
Hernán [DHEB]
Hi Hernán,
For the moment it is not possible to search by a list of names in VSX.
However, there may be a way around this for your purpose. If you login to VSX, you can get a list of all the stars you already observed (one of the special searches in the VSX search form). Or you can add a personal alias for each of the stars you want to observe (there is a link to do that in the detail sheet of each object). As a special search you can then look for all your personal aliases. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your answer, Patrick. Very interesting work around!
Apparently, the username and password that I use in the AAVSO is not workin for VSX. Is this right? Do I need to register separately into VSX to login?
Hernán
Yes, there is a separate login for VSX. Your AAVSO login won't work.
