Hello, dear VPHOT'ers.

When running a Time Series Analysis of 46 B-V pairs of photometric values, followed by the TransformApplier routine, I got a mysterious error message when attempting to upload an "AAVSOReport ..._TA.txt" file:

Home / WebObs

Error message

Line Number 1260: It looks like you have 1 field which is not the correct number (should be 15). Did you use the delimiter character in your 'notes' field? Please fix this in the file before submitting.

What did I do wrong? How do I fix it?

Ari:

The error message gives you two hints about line 1260 of your text file. You need a text editor that numbers lines to help find it.

I would certainly look there for something that is different than on the adjacent lines. The 15 might be related to a groups value? The 'notes' field may show a comma back to back with no appropriate value in between? Or a pipe symbol?

Copying and pasting this section of the text file into the forum topic comment box might give us an idea? I'm guessing at this point.

Hi, Ken,

There is no line 1260 in the AAVSOReport_20231112_TA.txt file. The file is said to be truncated after line 1259:

line 1258: NSV 16354,2460224.17361,11.826,0.009,V,YES,STD,ENSEMBLE,na,000-BMT-112,10.372,1.6874,0288,X28637OY,|CDEC
line 1259: warning: Truncated

So, I don't know what the number '15' is about...

Where is the 'notes' field?

The first few lines of the input file (AAVSOReport_R143_BV_20230328.txt) are:

Try fix?

Ari:

For notes, just look at the end of the following line. It contains some comp star details, that are used by TA.

#NAME,DATE,MAG,MERR,FILT,TRANS,MTYPE,CNAME,CMAG,KNAME,KMAG,AMASS,GROUP,CHART,NOTES

To fix truncation, run your time series in two smaller sections. See if that works. Is it just a size issue??

comment comma

I occasionally get that error. It is usually because I put a comma in the comment to make it readable. The software counts fields between comma, so a comma makes an extra field count.

In Notepad;  Edit /Goto /Line Number
