In the December (2020) issue of Sky & Telescope, pages 60-65, Our 2nd Vice President, Richard Berry, has written an excellent article: Measuring the Stars.
This is a comprehensive explanation of what the Digital Observation of Variable Stars is all about and is a great resource for all of us to use when trying to explain the science of Photometry to anyone with an interest (and we all might learn a few things ourselves).
