Hi there,

first post here. I was wondering if it would be possible to use the Baader IR-Pass 610nm for exoplanet measurement? The band pass seems very close to the Astrodon Exoplanet cbb filter.

Thanks

filters for exoplanet research

Yes for known exoplanets, an IR pass filter will work like the Astrodon CBB filter.  Submitting data to AAVSO and the Exoplanet Transit Database ( http://var2.astro.cz/ETD/index.php ) helps in detecting TTV (transit timing variations due to other unseen exoplanets) and improving the transit ephemeris precision as stale ephemeris with only old data become increasingly inaccurate over time.  For validating exoplanet candidates (like TESS candidates), having several filters such as Sloan g', r', i', etc that cover different spectral bands are used to determine if the transit depth is achromatic (consistent over different wavelengths) as a first step to separate exoplanet candidates and false positive transiting binary stars.  However, right now with the filter shortages, finding filters to purchase is challenging.
