What is the minimum sampling rate required for SID monitoring?

Hello everyone,

I am finally getting my SID programme going and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a suitable A-to-D converter sampling rate? Judging by graphs of SID events that I have seen, it would appear that sampling at a rate of 1 sample per second would be sufficient. Any comments?

hi Chris

I think it depends on what you are sampling. If it is amplified RF comming off the antenna, then 48 or 96 KHz sound cards have been touted. Nyquist and all that.

If you have an analog receiver like a tuned LF (low frequency) RF amp or gyrator, then it is doing the sampling and a cap on a subsequent op amp is averaging fo a second or two. You get an analog output that can be datalogged every so often, maybe as often your jusgdment would suggest so as to catch the rapid rise of signal strength seen during SIDs.

Hi Chris, Ray,

Probably the minimum would be 10 seconds.  Many folks use 5 second sample rate both with the Gyrator or the SuperSID type receiver (audio recording).  What type receiver are you using?
