Hi all
Is anyone running VStar on Windows 8?
If so, are you using plug-ins (ignoring for now that the plug-in manager is not working currently)?
I have been corresponding with a user who is having plug-in problems and I don't have a Windows 8 machine to test on and would appreciate some assistance. It may just be that the plug-ins are not in the desired directory, but I just want to rule some things out.
There'll be a new VStar release this week by the way.

David,
I used VStar on my Windows 8 machine throughout the class - no problems. I ran both from the web and also downloading and installing a local copy. I used almost all the plug-ins....
BUT, I just tried to log in and access the plug-ins. I got an exception code. See attached error message. It has some weird user name, not the user id entered.

That
Great, thanks Gordon.
That particular problem still relates to http://www.aavso.org/access-aid-vstar-currently-not-working
There'll be a release this week to fix that (plug-in manager, discrepant reporting) as well as other bugs and internal enhancements.
Can you tell me where your vstar_plugins and vstar_plugin_libs dirs are located (on Windows 8)?
When the plug-in manager is working, this doesn't matter, but for manual installation, it does.
David
David,
Unzipping the download creates the "vstar" folder
From there it goes - vstar->plugin->vstar-plugins-2.16.0, and this directory contains both vstar-plugin-libs and vstar_plugins
I attached a series of screen captures of the windows explorer displays as I stepped down the directory tree.

Actually, the key
Hi Gordon
Actually, the key thing I wanted to know was, where does your vstar_plugins (and vstar_plugin_libs) directory live under Windows 8 (probably created by the plug-in manager during the course)?
Under Windows 7, it will be C:\Users\some_user_dir and I'm interested to know whether Windows 8 does the same.
Those plug-in zip files were inadvertently added to the 2.16.0 VStar distribution zip.
That's okay, just unintended; even if a non-member gets access to BSM/APASS plug-ins this way, they still can't be used.
Thanks.
David
David,
Yes, in my case they are in the c:\Users\Gordon directory. Screen capture attached.

I've pointed
Thanks Gordon.
I've pointed the person who asked the question at this topic.
I suspected the dir structure was the same in Windows 8 but did not know.
