Alert Notice 514: RW Aur monitoring requested

Note: A thread for this campaign has been created in the AAVSO Campaigns and Observation Reports discussion forum:  https://www.aavso.org/rw-aur-monitoring

This campaign has been extended at least through 2022. Please continue to monitor RW Aur until further notice.  -  Elizabeth O. Waagen, 17 April 2020

Campaign extended through 2018.  Also, campaign updated in  Special Notice #402 (20150413).

Special Notice #378: BP Tau Chandra observation times set - time-series observations needed

December 18, 2013: Further to AAVSO Alert Notice 493, Dr. Hans Moritz Guenther (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics) has been given the precise times of the Chandra X-ray observations to be made of the T Tauri star BP Tau:

year:day:hour:min (in UT):
2013:356:22:52-2013:357:10:00 = 2013 Dec 22 22:52 through Dec 23 10:00 UT

2013:359:14:46-2013:360:06:06 = 2013 Dec 25 14:46 through Dec 26 06:06 UT

Alert Notice 493: Request to monitor BP Tau in support of Chandra X-ray observations

December 18, 2013: Dr. Hans Moritz Guenther (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics) has requested nightly observations of the classical T Tauri star BP Tau in support of upcoming Chandra X-ray observations in his study of the accretion processes underway in this star.

Alert Notice 368: Major Outburst of EX Lup

January 29, 2008: Further to AAVSO Special Notice #93, the pre main-sequence eruptive variable EX Lup (AAVSO 1556-40) appears to be  undergoing a major outburst, exceeding the previous brightest maximum recorded in 1955. Albert Jones (Nelson, NZ) reports that EX Lup reached a visual magnitude of 7.9 on 2008 Jan 29.66 UT (JD 2454495.1600). This exceeds the previous brigtest recorded magnitude of this object (m(vis) = 8.7 on JD 2435385.9 and 2435459.1) in 1955-56.

Alert Notice 488: Observations of AA Tau requested to schedule XMM-Newton

August 1, 2013: Dr. Hans Moritz Guenther (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics) has requested nightly observations of the classical T Tauri star AA Tau in order to schedule x-ray observations with XMM-Newton that have been planned for between 2013 August 15 and September 15.

Alert Notice 473: T Tauri stars observing campaign

November 6, 2012:  Darryl Sergison (University of Exeter) has requested AAVSO assistance with a campaign he is organizing on six T Tauri stars. He writes: "In Autumn 2013 I [and my PhD supervisor Tim Naylor of Exeter University are] undertaking a new study into the nature of pre-main-sequence low mass stars, using time series optical spectroscopy and UV-Visual-IR photometry...to build a clearer picture of the environment around young solar-type stars and characterise their various disc, accretion, and outflow structures.

Alert Notice 452: Simultaneous observations of SU Aur and AB Aur requested for XMM-Newton

8 February 2012:  Dr. Hans Moritz Guenther, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, has requested bracketing and simultaneous observations in support of XMM-Newton x-ray observations of the classical T Tauri star SU Aur and the close-by Herbig Ae star AB Aur scheduled for February 15 - 17, 2012. The targets are too bright to use the XMM optical monitor for simultaneous monitoring, so your observing assistance is essential for correlation of the x-ray data.
