Just been having a quick look at the article on R Aqr mentioned on the home page, and a couple of things stand out.
1) It's mentioned that even though the white dwarf is less massive than the red star its gravitational attraction is greater because (basically) it's denser. I don't see anything about density in Newton's equation.
2) Part of the evidence for the 1073 event comes, we are told, from Antarctic Ice Cores. What? For a regular nova?
