Perusing my old observing notebooks, I have ten visual binocular and telescope observations of V4743 Sgr between 22/9/2002 and 18/10/2002. My estimates were based on magnitudes of comparison stars given in the old software package Redshift 3. They appear to be consistent with those already in the AAVSO database. Is there any value in me adding these observations at so late a date?

Yes, please submit your old observations

Hello Eddie,

Yes, please submit your observations of V4743 Sgr from 2002 - they definitely are not too old! Using WebObs, it's probably easiest to submit them all in one file. Use the visual file format, please.

You never know when observations from the past may fill a gap or provide a critical data point at a key moment in the target's history. Observations should never just sit in a logbook or on a shelf - if they aren't where they can be used, it's as though they were never made, which is a loss all around.

Thanks, best wishes, and good observing,

Elizabeth Waagen, AAVSO HQ
