A new campaign on the YSO AA Tau kicks off today. AA Tau is a neat classical T Tau star that for decades was seen to show eclipses by the accretion funnel connecting the star and its accretion disk. That pattern has changed dramatically, and astronomers are investigating with XMM-Newton. Visual/CCD snapshot observations are needed to plan the satellite observations - if the star stays down, the observations can proceed, but if it pops back up to its brighter magnitude, it's no go.
Because Taurus is in the morning sky in August/September it's difficult for the professional observatories to observe; also, many of them are offline at this time of year. YOUR OBSERVATIONS ARE CRUCIAL!! Please see AAVSO Alert Notice 488 for details.
Many thanks for your help! and good observing - Elizabeth Waagen, AAVSO HQ
