Periodically, I post to remind people that there is an AAVSO IRC chat room available. A small group of AAVSOers (including me) hang out there on a daily basis. Maybe it is old school, but I find that it is a good way to meet people and freely discuss topics. Other than mentioning me by name in a forum post, it is also the easiest way to get my attention. :)
The server is irc.aavso.org, and the chat room is #aavso. Here is an article that discusses IRC chat in more detail, along with giving you some chat clients:

The modern incarnation of IRC chat is Slack.
There is a workspace called AAVSO General Group which I believe anyone can join. There you can create channels and I would be a lot like IRC.
The advantage is that many people are using Slack. I have 6 workspaces I monitor. So I have one app open that I will signal me If I'm mentioned.

Please note that the IRC Channel has been closed effective May 1, 2023. The AAVSO Community Slack channel is its replacement.
Hi
I find Slack quite difficult to navigate. Does anyone have any simple instructions for how to find the AAVSO Community Channel or Workspace?

Andrew
Andrew,
Try this link. It is what Lauren gave me. It worked.
