To AAVSO members: the AAVSO Nominating Committee is welcoming nominations for the AAVSO Board!
This year, three positions are open. We encourage anyone who is considering apply to read the detailed descriptions of board member roles and responsibilities. Individuals interested in serving on the Board should self-nominate, and may do so at any time between now and July 31, 2021 by filling out the nomination form.
The slate of candidates will be announced in September, and voting will begin shortly thereafter. Results will be announced at our Fall Meeting. Having served on the board and as president, I can say it is a rewarding experience for an AAVSO member.
We welcome any candidate who wishes to advance the mission of the AAVSO and is willing to contribute to management of the organization. The Board has two face-to-face meetings per year, along with online virtual meetings.
I welcome any inquiries about this; please send your email to: aavso@aavso.org (ATTN: AAVSO Nominating Committee).
We welcome applications from enthusiastic individuals who:
- are passionate about AAVSO’s mission
- are open-minded and eager to share and discuss different viewpoints, advancing the AAVSO’s work
- understand professional and amateur astronomy challenges in the 21st century
- promote the AAVSO’s work and serve as advocates to their communities.
We encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply.
Board members with the necessary skills, interests, and By-law-mandated experience should be prepared to consider standing for election by the Board to the office of President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer, which have even greater responsibilities and require greater time commitments.
We look forward to receiving your nomination materials!
