Severe trailing problems. When will it back up??

Star Trailing at BSM_NM2

Hi Team,

Stars still trailing over at BSM_NM2.

T_CrB observations cannot plat solve and are all star trails.

Thanks,

Andrew

BSM_NM2 star trailing

BSM_NM had a mount failure a month or so ago.  Michele Mittelman was generous enough to donate a used Paramount ME to the AAVSO, and Peter Scheuter and Tom Smith swapped mounts at Bill Stein's observatory where BSM_NM resides.  It appears that a power surge took out the old Paramount and a USB hub.

This mount worked fine at the David Mittelman Observatory, but seems to have a problem after the move.  It works well in three quadrants of the sky, but turns tracking off in the 4th quadrant.  This is a very strange error, and we haven't isolated the problem yet.  So for now, images taken in the NE (I believe) may trail.

I'm going out to NM in mid-May to work on APASS, and will work on BSM_NM at the same time.

BSM_NM2 Star Trailing

Hi Arne - It doesn't look like you've had any luck with BSM_NM2 in the quadrant where it is trailing. T CrB is in that area and sad that we are missing it. I'll reach out to Ken, as it may be wise to prioritize T CrB on another scope until it reaches a better area of the sky for tracking?

BSM_NM working "like magic"

Hi Arne and friends,

Of course the night after I send the email with a question on BSM_NM and T_CrB, it is now tracking accurately!

I don't know if you were able to fix it, or if it is just "magically" working now. But Thank You!

Happy to see T_CrB as stars instead of streaks.

Thanks,

Andrew

BSM NH2 tracking

I now have three sets of images in my VPhot list; each set contains 18 images.

2024-05-10      It looks like no tracking in RA took place at all.  The star images are widely separated in a neat line in RA.  Of Course, none of these solved.

2024-05-28     All the images I have examined so far are well tracked.  All solved.

2024-05-30     All are well tracked.  All solved.

Hello,

I got a set of AG…

Hello,

I got a set of AG Dra images taken on the May29 and they were good,

instead the set of CH Cyg taken on May 30th were all trailed.

Apparently the problem is still there

My latest images from this system (5-28 and 5-30) are very good, and I'd like to continue getting them for my project.

Would it be possible to set the AAVSOnet scheduling software so that this system would not be scheduled to take images in the quadrant which causes the problem?  This might require a bit of cooperation between the observers and the schedulers to delineate the no fly zone, but I think it would be worth the effort to put this system to its best use until it can be fixed.
