 - Yukio Sakurai (Mito, Ibaraki-ken, Japan)

Discovery Magnitude:
 - Itagaki: magnitude 10.3 on an unfiltered CCD image taken with a 0.21-m reflector
 - Sakurai: magnitude 9.9 on four 20-s frames taken with a Fuji FinePix S2 Digital Camera + Nikon 180-mm f/2.8 lens

 - Sakurai: 2012 June 26.540 UT

Coordinates:
 - Itagaki: R.A. 17 52 25.79  Dec. -21 26 21.5 (2000.0)
 - Sakurai: R.A. 17 52 25.59  Dec. -21 26 22.9 (2000.0), measured by S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, +/- 5" and limiting magnitude ~11.5;

Spectra: Spectra by L. Kiss and K. Sarneczky (Konkoly Observatory, Hungary) and J. Kovacs and T. Borkovits (ELTE Gothard Observatory, Hungary); Kazuyoshi Imamura (Okayama University of Science, Japan); Hiroyuki Maehara (Kwasan Observatory, Kyoto University, Japan); Christian Buil (Castanet Observatory, France); and by Ulisse Munari (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Padova Astronomical Observatory, Italy) confirm the object as a nova. The spectra by Munari on June 28.95 UT indicate Nova Sgr 2012 No. 3 is of the He/N type. Details regarding these spectra reports and image URLs are in CBET 3156.
