AAVSO ALERT NOTICE 192 (August 29, 1994)
OUTBURST OF 2318+17 IP PEGASI
We have been informed by T. Kato, Kyoto University, Japan, that the dwarf nova IP Peg
has gone into outburst. The last observed outburst of IP Peg occurred on January 11, 1994,
when it reached magnitude 11.8 and was bright for 12 days. Recent observations include:

Montclair, NJ.
Please monitor IP Peg closely, using the accompanying AAVSO chart, and report your
observations to AAVSO Headquarters. IP Peg is a cataclysmic variable that has deep
eclipses of two magnitudes or more with a period of 3.8 hours and a duration of several
tens of minutes. Monitoring the eclipses during the outburst is valuable and
recommended; report the timing of all positive observations to the minute (four decimal
places).

REQUEST FOR OBSERVATIONS OF 0103+59 HT CAS, 1332+52 UX UMA, AND
2318+17 IP PEG
An astronomer from Muenster University, Germany, has requested our assistance in
observing northern eclipsing dwarf novae in outburst. From now until the end of
September, please monitor the eclipsing dwarf novae HT Cas, UX UMa, and IP Peg, and
contact AAVSO Headquarters if you observe any of them go into outburst. As IP Peg is in
outburst at this time, it is very unlikely it will have another outburst next month, but please
monitor it all the same. If any of these stars does have an outburst, please follow it until it
returns to minimum.
Accompanying are AAVSO charts for these three stars. Please use them to observe, and
report your observations to the AAVSO, indicating the comparison stars you used, and
reporting your observations to the minute (four decimal places of the Julian Date).
