As many of you know we have been working hard on creating an updated, secure website and migrate from Drupal 7 (which will no longer be supported) to Drupal 8. As a consequence, some of our existing tools will not be compatible under Drupal 8, but their functionality are part of new and more secure software. In particular:
- LGGv1 – We have been in the process of deprecating this product for several years and it is simply incompatible with the new infrastructure. A combination of LCGv2 and Vstar are able to replicate all relevant functions.
- Zapper – The functionality of this tool can be found on VStar and LCGv2; the original Zapper tool will not be maintained further.
- Observation Planner Tool – This tool will not be supported any more; all functionalities of this tool are now available in the AAVSO Target Tool.
- Transform Applier – This tool is incompatible with the new IT framework. Its functionality has been added to VPhot.
Maintaining software and ensuring proper functionality and security is a priority for the AAVSO. We want to do what’s best for our community to grow and flourish; constantly supporting old technologies severely limits our ability to do that. That being said, we are open to feedback, and we welcome suggestions.
Sincerely,
Bert Pablo
