Change of email address not reflected in user ID

I tried to change my email address using the 'Edit' tab under 'My account'.

After the change I can see the new address in the Edit tab. However, the address is not reflected in the contact information under the 'Account' tab nor is the user ID changed.

Is this a 'feature' of the new site or am I doing something wrong?
