The 2012 Spring Meeting of the AAVSO was held last week in Big Bear, California. This was my first time in Big Bear and I was very impressed by the quality of the talks at this joint meeting with The Society for Astronomical Sciences (SAS)! I was thrilled to make so many new acquaintances - both AAVSO and SAS members. In addition to the contributed talks AAVSO Council member, John Martin gave a workshop on spectroscopy and the AAVSO's Assistant Director, Aaron Price presented a workshop on VPHOT.
A number of observer awards were earned this year and two of the recipients, Jerry Horne and Richard Sabo, were present to receive their certificates in person during the AAVSO Membership Meeting.
At the end of the meeting Arne presented the Director's Award to this year's recipient Chris Watson. Chris is a recent Council member and has contributed countless hours of his technical expertise to the creation and refinement of VSX, VSP, and VSD. Well deserved Chris!
