March 8, 2008: D. Green, Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams, announces in CBET 1291 the discovery of an apparent nova in Cygnus [V2468 Cyg] by Hiroshi Kaneda, Minami-ku, Sapporo, Japan (reported via S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan), at magnitude 8.2 +/-0.3 on unfiltered CCD images taken March 7.801 UT.
N Cyg 08 is located at: RA 19:58:33.57, Decl. +29:52:11.6 (J2000)
Position measured by J. Beize, Beijing, China, on images taken by apparent independent discoverers Zhang-wei Jin and Xing Gao, Xingming Observatory, Mt. Nanshan, China.
Observations, and spectroscopy to confirm identity as a nova, are requested.
N Cyg 08 has been submitted to VSX and has been given the identifier VSX J195833.5+295211. It has also been assigned the AAVSO Unique ID (AUID) 000-BFT-108.
A finder chart for N Cyg 08 may be plotted with VSP: http://www.aavso.org/observing/charts/vsp/
No local sequence is available yet, but plotting an 'A' scale chart gives stars brighter than magnitude 9 in the general area.
Observations reported to the AAVSO include: Mar. 8.45204 UT, 7.8V, M. Nicholson, Daventry, England (reported to aavso-discussion); and via CBET 1291: Feb. 24.852 UT, <12 (Yuji Nakamura, Kameyama, Mie, Japan, 135-mm-f.l. camera lens); Mar. 5.830, <10.5 (Minoru Yamamoto, Okazaki, Aichi, Japan, digital camera + 85-mm-f.l. lens); Mar. 7.826, 8.0 (Yamamoto); Mar. 7.830, 8.6 (Nakamura); Mar. 7.837, 7.4 (Katsumi Haseda, Toyohashi, Aichi, Japan, Canon EOS digital camera + 120-mm-f.l. lens); Mar. 7.871, 9.2 (Tetsuo Kudo, Goshi, Kumamoto, Japan, Canon EOS digital camera + 40-mm-f.l. lens).
