Monitoring requested for Aquila X-1 (V1333 Aql) outburst

Active Dates: Aug. 21, 2020 – Aug. 21, 2020

Abstract:

AAVSO assistance has been requested to monitor the x-ray binary Aquila X-1 (V1333 Aql) during its current outburst, which is the prototypical recurrent neutron star low-mass X-ray binary. This star undergoes outbursts about every 9 months to a year.

Justification:

Aquila X-1 (V1333 Aql) undergoes significant brightness changes during outbursts, making it a very variable star. Monitoring in multiple photometric filters is useful to track color changes during the outburst. Additionally, observing the photometry in one filter multiple times per night allows quantification of smaller scale variability.
