Friends,
I hope this message finds you all well in these unusual times.
With public health and safety as the top priority, the AAVSO leadership decided to convert the 109th AAVSO Annual Meeting, planned for November 2020, to a fully virtual event.
The dates of the e-meeting are November 13, 14, and 15, 2020, including a data mining workshop on November 1, and a spectroscopy workshop on October 31, November 6, 7, and 8. Our relevant planning task forces are already working hard to provide you with a dynamic online experience and plan events that are both fun and informational. Please cancel your hotel reservations as soon as you can, to receive full refund. Also, mark your calendars for the upcoming meeting.
Going forward, what you can expect from the AAVSO is a continued commitment to bringing our international community together both virtually and physically (when appropriate) year-round. We are fully dedicated to our mission, “to enable anyone, anywhere to participate in scientific discovery through variable star astronomy”. The need for interaction is more important than ever, as we collectively explore the night sky and reveal its wonders through observations and data mining. Social distancing is not social isolation.
We are up to the challenge. We are here to help you stay connected, now and always. We’ll share more details about the event in the coming months. In the meantime, please stay safe.
Best wishes – clear skies
Stella.
